Khojir National Park

Description:

Khojir is one of the oldest national parks of the world. Used as a royal hunting ground for years, it was turned into a national park in 1982. Khojir is worth seeing in spring. It is a mountainous region located 1,300-2,100 meters above sea level. Jajroud River passes through the park. Tourists should obtain a permit to enter this park, which is patrolled by rangers. They face many dangers every day. The population of wildlife species such as ram, ewe and goat has grown in recent years. Other species such as hyena, jackal, fox and leopard live in this park. Khojir is a symbol of old Tehran. Old inhabitants of Afsarieh and Narmak districts remember groups of ram and ewe near their residences. Interestingly, while those districts have been transformed into residential areas, Khojir has remained intact. The biggest population of ram and ewe in Tehran province has been spotted in Jajroud protected region. This is while large goat populations have been spotted in Firouzkouh, Jajroud and Kavir protected regions. Migratory gazelles frequent National Sorkheh Hesar Park and southeast parts of Khojir National Park.
